Click here for an audio update on my wicked project aka increasing communication!
The website is coming along! And as I mentioned in my podcast students seem to be reacting very positively to the idea of using a website and they gave me some good input!

This sounds so positive! It's great too that if they have all the information on one site, they'll be coming to your site more often and will be more likely to notice changes.
ReplyDeleteI love that they want to help you!! That's a great opportunity for you to delegate tasks. A class blog or a class podcast of what they learned that week would be excellent not only for the students to remember and review, but also for the parents to see what their kids are learning. All in all this just sounds so promising. Good luck!
I agree, web site building does take up a tremendous amount of time. Minutes can turn to hours in a blink of an eye. Your web site is nicely laid out and very easy to navigate=8-). I agree with a comment made by Emily her Part B comment - Think about assigning homework submission and parent information their own pages. This would give the some of the pages a more polished, less cluttered look. I loved the way your students took an active interest in web site building - how awesome is that! I have a web site for my classroom and my students prefer using that over using my teacher page on the district's web site. This will be a great communication tool for your parents, students and fellow educators, once school starts back up in the fall. Looking forward to reading your final post ~ Sue
ReplyDeleteI am really excited to hear how interested your students are about the making of and accessibility of a class website. I had also thought creating a website would be too difficult, but realize that making a website has become somewhat manageable due to sites like Weebly and Google sites.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about the lack of a discussion board on the site. I find that being able to open a discussion topic about homework is almost like answering a question in class that many students have, but are afraid to ask. I have used discussion boards in Moodle to have students ask questions about homework. That way the questions and my answers are available for all students to view, just in case they are also having the same issues.
I am inspired to start my own website over the summer, even though we have Moodle as a course managing system. I would like to have information available to parents as well.
Great Job and awesome work!
My project is somewhat of a blend between yours and Tammie's. What are you using for students to submit their homework? I am very interested in a feature like that for my own homework. One random suggestion I have is to double check with your district about policies for using students' images on the website. You had mentioned the possibility of adding pictures, but I know some parents won't give permission for their student's image to be used on a website.
