The website will improve the lines of communcation by:
- I expect parents will be able to find out what students are doing in school
- Check anytime at their convenience
- Be able to ask questions and provide feedback
- Parents will be plugged into a network by having a blog to contribute and links to other resources
- Making news and announcements available at the click of a button rather than waiting for mail.
- Provide a way for students who are at home ill or who are behind in class to find out what assignments there are, access the assignment and have the option of submitting the assignment electronically to avoid "lost work syndrome".
- What is the PC knowledge for the solution? (i.e., how specifically do your pedagogical choices make the content in your problem more intellectually accessible?) Be sure to think about how the student will experience the content given these instructional strategies.
The General Purpose of my Classroom Website:
· Providing a general description of the classroom or course.
· Providing a general outline and timeline of the units covered.
· Providing specific information about individual units or projects.
· Providing information about the progress of individual students.
· Providing links to online academic resources.

I loved the way you used information from your research to support your project=8-)I think it would be wonderful if you could add a few more details and examples about your project to some of the sections. For example, you might want to consider explicitly mentioning the different types of information that will be posted on the web site and why, i.e., homework due dates, unit test dates, study guides so students are prepared for class. Or can access the material, when absent in the TP section. In the TC section you might want to think about adding information describing how you see the web site will improve/open up/extend the lines of communication between home and school. Looking forward to hearing about how your implementation went in your next post=8-)
ReplyDeleteI checked out your website. It looks great! One thing I'd ask though is if you can make the font bigger. It's a little hard to read right now.
ReplyDeleteI'd also suggest making "submit your homework" it's own page. Also, tell them that the name of the assignment should be in the title of the document. Otherwise you end up with a lot of homework.doc.
This looks wonderful otherwise. It's very well laid out and has tons of useful information. If I were a parent in your class, I would be seriously impressed and glad that my child had a teacher who cared so much.
Your website looks great! I really like the use of the Voki as an introduction. I think it really makes it something to connect to when visiting the site.
ReplyDeleteI like that you are including a blog on the site. I don't think many kids or parents know much about blogging. So I think your use of a blog will be a great way to introduce them to the uses of blog.
What a great start and I think this will be something that will impress the students, and something you will be very proud of when you are finished.

I'm intrigued by your comment that parents prefer email communication. If I were a parent, that would be true, but I've also had a LOT of trouble communicating via email with parents in my district. I don't think many of them regularly check their emails, or use them very productively (based on the names some of them have chosen). Have you used email or web-based communication before in your district? Also, will your website feature anything that updates parents/students of new postings, or is it up to them to check the site from time to time?
ReplyDeleteDave ~ I think you are right about parents and email. One of my parents decided to ignore mine and respond only to the ones sent by 5th grade teacher. As a result, I had Ginger add my information to any email she was sending to the parent. Talk about a work-around!
ReplyDeleteI think I said that parents indicated they preferred a website to letters, email, phone calls... I have a number of parents who do request that we communicate via email and since I will be at three schools next year they will need an online way to communicate with me since getting me by phone or in person will be difficult!
